The observance of Independence Day on June 12, a Thursday, has been moved earlier to June 9, in accordance with the new law rationalizing public holidays, Malacañang announced yesterday.
According to Malacañang, June 9, which falls on Monday, would be a non-working holiday.
But all activities and celebrations marking Independence Day would be done on June 12, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Lorelei Fajardo said.
Proclamation No. 1463, issued by the President earlier this year, allows the President to move the observance of national holidays that fall within the middle of the week to the nearest Monday. Only May 1, Labor Day, is not covered by this law.
This would allow the people to have a long weekend to spend with their families.
